Varanasi Gang-Rape Case Under Investigation

A 19-year-old girl accused 23 people of gang rape between March 29 and April 4. Police have arrested 14 suspects and formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by a DCP-rank officer for further investigation.

The families of the accused have provided digital evidence introducing contradictions in the survivor version. Reportedly videos show the woman in public with some of the accused on the alleged date. ​

IIT-BHU Gang-Rape Case Developments

As of November 2023, a 22-year-old student from IIT-BHU has alleged she was gang-raped by three men, who were all supposedly associated with IT cells of different political parties. The accused escaped to Madhya Pradesh, where they were arrested later. One of them has been freed on bail, while the other is still in jail.

Mobile health vans go to rural areas every week that are in the periphery of Varanasi. These vans provide free checkups and medicines. The district health office also organizes vaccination camps on a regular basis.
